Airport Energy Services: HVO Fact Checked

AES Fact Checked

As the aviation industry pushes toward net zero, the demand for cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions is growing fast. At Airport Energy Service Ltd (A WP Group Company) we’re proud to be at the forefront of the transition. We supply and deliver Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to leading UK airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Edinburgh.

In addition to providing high-quality HVO, we deliver end-to-end fuel management solutions, using advanced telemetry and data-driven tools to optimise ground operations airside, helping the aviation sector reach its sustainability goals faster.

Airport Energy and Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme

We’ve collated some of the most common misconceptions about HVO so you don’t have to go searching. Whether you’re exploring renewable fuels for the first time, managing an airside fleet, planning your sustainability roadmap or simply looking to separate fact from fiction, we’re here to set the record straight.

The UK doesn’t have a stable supply of HVO?

For HVO, rising demand is sparking investment and expanding production capacity, leading to greater market availability as awareness continues to grow. We work closely with established, reputable import partners to ensure a reliable and consistent HVO supply for all our customers.

Does HVO contain palm oil?

Sustainability and traceability are core priorities for us. Airport Energy Services supplies HVO produced exclusively from Used Cooking Oil (UCO) and is 100% palm oil free, as specified in our agreements with import partners. We require a minimum 85% CO₂e saving and maintain regularly audited records to verify the provenance of every batch.

Will HVO void the warranty of my equipment?

We always recommend checking with your equipment’s original manufacturer (OEM) regarding HVO approval. However, HVO is certified under European standard EN15940, which many OEMs recognise and support. In most cases, this means HVO is covered under existing warranties. Contact our expert team if you have any concerns or need advice.

What if my net zero goal is electrification?

Electrification and hydrogen are key to the long-term decarbonisation of transport. HVO offers an immediate, practical way to reduce emissions today. It enables businesses to make meaningful progress toward sustainability targets while transitioning to future technologies. At Airport Energy Services Ltd, we’re committed to decarbonising UK airports operations now – HVO is a critical part of that journey.
