WP say goodbye to one of the last of the "Old Guard"

 18th May 2012

Tom shakes hands with David Fairchild 550

After almost 27 years of service to WP Group, colleagues, customers and suppliers were sad to see the retirement of driver Tom Osman.

Tom first jumped into a tanker and started work for WP Group (then Wessex Petroleum) on the 7th October 1985. The year of Live Aid, the discovery of the Titanic, invention of the Sinclair C5 by Clive Sinclair and when the world still had a Soviet Union, with Mikhail Gorbachev becoming the Soviet Leader. The rest, as they say, is history!

One of the last of the "Old Guard", the few drivers who remain from the previous company owners, Tom finally decided to retire from WP Group on the 20th April 2012. He intends to enjoy a slower pace and his passion for fishing, however he thinks his daughter may have some work for him to do on her new house, so he may not be quite as quiet as he hoped. But anyone who knows Tom will know he will want to keep active!

Tom’s amicable style and professional work ethic made him very popular with everyone he came across. The Fairchild family and all his friends from WP Group gathered at the Sir John Barleycorn Pub on the 27th April to celebrate his time with the company.

As mentioned, Tom will want to keep active and has already approached the Transport Team to say he’ll be available to work part-time during busy periods so WP are pleased that it hasn't seen the last of him yet!

The Fairchild’s and all at WP Group wish Tom all the best through his well-earned retirement, even though he may not be fully leaving the WP family yet after all...
