The Role

The Regional Logistics Manager’s purpose is to ensure that WP Group are maximising the efficiency and performance of our operational resources in meeting customer service requirements and delivery criteria. The success of this role is measured based on our delivery performance in terms of asset and driver utilisation, on time delivery ratio, freight cost per litre and delivery success rate.

Working as a key member of the Operations management team you will be the key stakeholder for Driver and vehicle management. Your role will be to bring people and assets together and utilise them in the most effective and efficient way possible.

You will report directly to the Operations Manager who will require regular and scheduled reporting.  You are required to produce analysis detailing our performance against plan and highlighting areas for improvement. You will also be required to propose actions and plans designed to improve performance and monitor the effectiveness of these over time to demonstrate continual business improvement.

This is a role that is responsible for a number of our own and shared distribution facilities. The role will require travel and spending time at depots working with our Drivers. The area of cover stretches West to East from Reading, Staines and Purfleet Essex and Thames Oil Port. The role will therefore be based at various office and depot locations throughout the South including attendance at our office in Southampton with home working when appropriate.

Key responsibilities

  • To proactively motivate drivers to achieve planned targets and deadlines by providing guidance and encouragement and resolve any issues daily.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet transport legislation and any defects are reported according to Company procedure.
  • Working with Fleet administration to ensure fleet administration is maintained according to schedule e.g. MOT’s, services, tax etc.
  • Maintain and further develop a high level of teamwork and morale within your team.
  • Identify and report all operational problems to the Operations Manager on a regular basis, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure tachographs are completed correctly and accurately.
  • Ensure drivers full compliance with driver’s hour’s legislation and all Road Traffic Act Regulations.
  • Provide accurate details of delays etc. to ensure the service level information is recorded correctly.
  • To attend any relevant training sessions to ensure you are fully equipped to perform your role effectively and assist in the development of continuous improvement within the function and depot.
  • Proactively engage with the recruitment of new Staff to ensure future resilience.
  • Utilise any new technology initiatives into the operation.
  • Facilitate the Operations Manager in investigating and preventing accidents thereby ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures and legislation.
  • Play an active role in any grievance and disciplinary procedures including investigations, hearings and dismissal.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required for the effective operation of the function and the depot.
  • Sickness/Absence Management - Ensure all sickness and absence is monitored and controlled using procedures and processes in force at that time.
  • Ensure through the development of effective communication channels across the fuel operations team.
  • Maintenance – Managing Maintenance including:
  • Ensuring all equipment is maintained within the service. Intervals as detailed in the terms of the Company Operators License.
  • Maintaining all equipment maintenance records.
  • Provide Daily VOR Report to business.
  • Local Contract Focal Point for Maintenance Providers
  • Monitoring Quality of Service
  • VOR Investigations
  • Accident/Incident Management – including:
  • Investigation and analysis
  • Implementing Corrective action
  • Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) – including:
  • Implementation and Maintenance of Company Policy and Procedures
  • Communication - development and culture of positive/proactive SHE culture including the following;
  • Participating in location safety meetings
  • Maintaining SHE Notice boards

  • Managing QMS for own operation
  • To ensure all operational matters are recorded effectively for historical reference and reported in accordance with requirements of company

Skills and Experience Required

  • 2 to 3 years management experience in a logistics environment
  • Previous experience of planning in a multi-drop transport business
  • Good working Knowledge of O licence requirements and Drivers Hours Legislation
  • Knowledge of logistics in a Dangerous Goods Environment

Role Description

Lead all aspects of WP Group's environmental, compliance and quality systems across the WP Group.   • As the Quality and Compliance Manager you will take personal responsibility for the overall performance of WP Group's QMS, Health & Safety and EMS processes and procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO 18001 and statutory requirements of UK and wider operating legislation

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a focal point internally for all compliance, regulatory, safety and environmental matters
  • Coordinate WP Group's H&S committee and champion global and European HSEQ initiatives
  • Provide Legislative and Regulation advice to the Management Team on all matters relating to HSEQ to ensure compliance
  • Provide HSEQ advice to ensure we meet all contractual requirements
  • Manage Systems including all Processes, Procedures, Risk Assessments, Method Statements and CoSHH documents
  • Be responsible for 9001, 14001 & 18001 accreditations including monitoring and reporting activities in accordance with 9001, 14001 & 18001 standards
  • Manage the internal HSEQ audit process and monitor WP Group business to ensure legislative and project requirements are met

  • Lead on all incidents and accident investigations
  • Provide out of hours support for emergencies and events
  • Be the liaison and interface between the client and contractor HSEQ management

Experience Needed/ Attributes Required:

  • 2 to 3 years management experience in QMS, Health & Safety and EMS processes and procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO14001, ISO 18001 and ISO 50001
  • Possess a formal HSEQ qualification or similar in order to monitor and evaluate legislative performance within these areas (essential)
  • NEBOSH diploma preferred, minimum NEBOSH General. Completed Managing health and safety IOSH or similar (essential)
  • Experience of working in a customer service environment (desirable)
  • Knowledge of fuel distribution or associated fuel industry would be beneficial (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of ISO compliance and auditing requirements (9000, 14001 etc.) Ideally you should hold an Auditors Qualification for and have experience in ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 18001. (desirable)
