On Friday 15th July a selection of WP’s finest competed in the annual Cactus Sailing Regatta. The WP team comprised of an array of business unit specialisms from Lubrication Management and Fuel Solutions to IT and Business Development. At 8.30am the team spent 30 minutes ‘learning the ropes’, to familiarise themselves with the roles and skills needed to form a winning team.
With the help of Skipper Doug, the WP team set off with the determination to compete! Doug has been sailing since his youth and has previously managed a team to claim first place in the Cactus Sailing Regatta.
The first 4 mark race saw WP Group achieve first place and with a thoroughly enthused team, they readied themselves for a day of success. The wind and sea conditions picked up during the second race keeping the team on their toes and also getting most of the team covered in sea water!
The races paused for lunch and the teams sailed over to Yarmouth harbour for a BBQ lunch, before completing the final race of the day back to Lymington Marina. This was the longest race and called for a full demonstration of the skills learnt earlier in the day; team WP placed second.
Despite best efforts and immense enthusiasm WP Group placed second overall, with Barker Group securing the trophy having placed 2nd, 1st, 1st in the three races of the day.
